Introductions are ch
allenging. The writer wants to convey confidence and humility while sharing some accomplishments and insights into one’s personality all while projecting a sense of being grounded, down to earth and normal. Ugh.
So here goes mine. I’m a wife, mother, business woman. I’m a CEO, President, Grunt, and Think-tank. I’m a Utah Mormon, Korean adoptee, and a Hypnotherapist. My husband and I started our first company about 16 years. He encouraged me to join him in creating our professional future. We’ve just celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. We have no regrets regarding both decisions. We have two children and will soon be ’empty-nesters’ as our youngest will graduate from high school next year. I’m an adrenaline junkie; I love the safe rush that comes from creating value and collaborative discovery. I enjoy debating issues and encourage bantering opinions around in the kitchen with our kids. My husband calls this back and forth discussing bickering. I disagree. I get charged by quick comebacks and on your feet logic required to support an opinion.
My spouse and I are very different, and yet we compliment each other wonderfully. My life mission is to create a platform that encourages, and supports peoples’ dreams. The opportunity to share lessons- learned with those who could benefit from experiences of others is a powerful tool for good in the world. I am an eternal optimist (aren’t all entrepreneurs) I believe in the goodness of people. I believe in karma. I believe in marriage and family, and I believe that the greatest thing someone can do in this world is to help someone who isn’t in a position to help you back.
My professional career began as a mortgage loan processor for First Security Bank back in the 90’s. My neighbor happened to be a senior VP at the bank, and he hired me whlieI was attending Brigham Young Unversity. I will always be grateful for this professional favor. This job became the first stone in the foundation of my adulthood. My first boss was a woman who didn’t like me. She was a seasoned manager who didn’t like newbies. I was inexperienced as this was my first ‘office job.’ I made many mistakes and required a lot of mentoring. Fortunately, I was assigned to process for a wonderful man who was a high producer. He taught me all about the world of residential mortgage lending and construction lending.
For several years I was abused by the manager. She would do everything within her power to humiliate and belittle me in front of the other employees.
I was reluctant to quit because I felt I owed a huge debt of gratitude to my neighbor for my job and didn’t want to let him down. He was very understanding when after three years I told him I had another opportunity. He assured the very naive me that “The bank would manage without me and it would be okay.”
I worked as a Senior Loan Officer for years and loved my job. My husband and I talked about perhaps opening a mortgage company. To fully understand the lending process I switched careers and became a licensed Escrow/Title Officer. I managed a local title company until our first child was born.
Our podcasts, and blog will provide as Paul Harvey used to say, “….the rest of the story….”
