As a pre-medical student, I learned that the key to success is not something that you are necessarily born with. Rather, it is something that you learn and continues to develop throughout your life. That being said, success boils down to our everyday habits. However, we are all aware of the cliché habits that every magazine has published. While those habits are important, here are six daily habits that I researched that helped me become more successful in my academics, business, health, and relationships.

Make and Use To-Do Lists

Being organized is a major aspect that can help someone become successful. However, most successful business leaders and millionaires utilize a to-do list rather than a planner. Making a to-do list is simple enough, but, for it to work, you need to organize it in the order of importance. When I first tried this, I always made lengthy lists that I never completed. When I prioritized my list, I found that I got more done and I could focus more on the important tasks rather than be distracted by more appealing and fun tasks.

Make Health a Priority

In everything you do, it is always important to care for your physical, mental, and spiritual health. Doing a workout or going to the gym regularly not only helps you build up that swimsuit body, but it also helps you be more productive during the day. Harvard Health published a study that found that regular workout routines increase learning and memory recall. Another study found that 76% of millionaires spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day doing aerobic exercises.

The morning is the best time to work out because morning workouts can wake you up and give you a boost of energy. Studies have shown that people remain more focused and alert throughout the day after a workout, so completing a morning workout maximizes your productivity.

Find Balance in Life

Most of us have different aspects of our lives such as work, family, religion, or extracurricular activities. Balancing all of these aspects requires sacrifice and a lot of time management. If you let one of these things consume all your time, then you may get burnt out or diminish your productivity. Life is about balance. Be sure to prioritize your time to fit your goals. If any tasks or opportunities do not support your goals, deprioritize them. Many successful people set aside time for small interactions outside of their business work. These include dinner with family, spending time with their children, or working out. These can have a refreshing effect which is essential to perform your best.

Plan and Communicate

As already mentioned, being organized is a key aspect for success. Many studies have found that most successful people take time at the end of the day to plan and set goals for the next day. Furthermore, successful people often utilize a Sunday evening to plan their entire week. However, what good is creating a plan when it isn’t shared with others? Be sure to communicate with those working with you so everyone is working towards the same goal.

Develop a Sleep Routine

Sleep is essential to be productive. However, most successful people don’t go to bed late and wake up at noon. Instead, studies show that 50% of successful people wake up at least three hours before their workday begins to catch up on other projects, meditate, exercise, or plan. They also go to bed early to get an ample amount of sleep. For example, Albert Einstein stated that he slept for 10 hours each night to ensure he performed his best. Furthermore, studies have shown that 89% of self-made millionaires sleep for at least eight hours every night.

Delegate

This aspect was the hardest for me to grasp. Like most people, I try to do everything myself. However, this causes you to take more things on your plate than you can handle. Instead of running around in circles to get everything done yourself, delegate tasks to others. This allows you to focus on the most important tasks. Working as a team also makes business more manageable so you can perform your best.
